The exquisite nature of blue gum

I was delighted to be involved in the opening of a new gallery/wine bar space called 3to7. They are at 3-7 Danks St Waterloo, which is an area I do enjoy to visit {good wandering, excellent food stuffs to be had}. The exhibition is running until early September. I am heading to Europe this week for one month then to NY for 6 weeks so I wanted to do something interesting and long lasting. Enter blue gum. I made a giant wreath-it's about 2m in diameter. The gum is really beautiful, it smells so crisp and fresh. The leaves are so wonderful-sagey green with silvery tones. This gum also had tiny gum nuts and a creamy lemon coloured flower that looked like micro flowering gum. It was really fun to work with and I know it will age gracefully. It was also quite lovely to work on something that was subtle and brought something which is often more of a frame for flowers into focus.

Our cockatoo was trying to help I think but he was in a traitorous mood and kept pruning my gum so every time I turned around I had to move the gum. Eventually he settled into gnawing on the lavender. It was quite a sensory experience.

I also put some magnolia branches, monstera leaves, ivy and balloon vines into a suspended piano which is in the entrance way. I love being up a ladder with a pocket full of cable ties. Good times.

apologies for the screen shot-I forgot to take a photo of it

Go and visit if you're able!
